Snowed In

The neighbors cleared our driveway before
we got home.

Jack and Susan left the FHL Monday, December 22 for home. It was not snowing in SLC. When we arrived home this is what we saw. The neighbors had shoveled our driveway for us. In fact they were out shoveling the entire neighborhood. What a wonderful surprise and blessing. It had snowed over 12 inches during the day. This is the most snow I have ever seen in Eagle Mountain. For the time being I don't think we need to be concerned about global warming.

Thanks to David and Steven.....

Last night we got sleet then snow on top, which caused school to be cancelled today. I thought since all of the other cousins on the Horsley side were able to open their cousin gifts on Saturday at the party, I would let my kids open theirs today. It helped cause we are stuck in the house, with no where to go. Well, we have places and things we would love to do, but the roads are so bad, I don't dare drive. So here is a picture and thanks to David for giving Taylor the Littlest Pet shop thing and thanks to Steven for giving Morgan the Tinker Bell toy. They both screamed with excitement.

I found Taylor watching TV this way. LOL~

Wow, this is my very first blog entry ever! Thank dad for the info.

It sure was great seeing all you guys on thurs. It sure is a great blessing that we're able to do that every 2 years. I'd like to see that tradition continue as long as possible. I get to see and spend so little time with all of you that I really do enjoy the times that I do.

Thanks Glen and Sarah for letting me and the boys crash at your place for a couple days. We had fun. The boys sure love playing with your girls.

We'll see ya all on Dec. 13th. We're looking forward to it!

Love you all,

John

Cousin Christmas Gifts

Hello Family!! Just a couple of days until we are all together again. I am looking forward to it so much. I got thinking that because Janice and her family will be here now, but not for Christmas, it would be a good idea to know who cousins are giving to for Christmas. I talked to a couple of people and it didn't sound like we had drawn names yet. So Sammy, Steven, and I went ahead and did it so Janice could know who to bring gifts for and who ever gives to her kids would be able to bring their gifts. I hope this is o.k. with every one. If not we can draw again at Thanksgiving, but keep Janni's kids the same. Here's the list:

Disappointed, Yet I Celebrate

I just want to say that I am disappointed that John McCain didn't win. I am nervous about Obama because I feel like he wears a mask and I don't know what is behind it. I am nervous to see what will be revealed in the next four years. However, I also celebrate because of the progress our country has made with civil rights. I rejoice that most Americans can look past color and we can see each other as equals.

I am grateful to be an American. How amazing that we can vote without fear and celebrate our freedoms. This election has reminded me of my duty to be aware of issues and do what I can to make a difference.

God Bless America!!!!

Helping others

I talked to Lydia yesterday. She has a family in her ward that could use our help for Christmas. Instead of giving books this year we will help this family. I guess the husband left the family about a year ago. The mother speaks a little English, but is working hard to provide for the family. You can imagine how difficult it must be to provide enough for her children and take care of their emotional needs as well. So the plan is to bring non-perishable foods to our Thanksgiving feast and what ever money you would like to donate. Lydia will take the money and get a visa gift card so she can use it to pay bills, food, or whatever they need. Hopefully, this is o.k. with everyone. Let us know.

I also need help getting an important message out. I have a friend in my ward that has not been able to have her own children. Her name is Rachel and her husband is James. They are an amazing couple. They have been married for 6 years and done all possible to have children. A year ago they were approved for adoption. They have had two opportunities that have not worked out. Rachel is asking for help to get the word out that they would like to adopt. Rachel and James will make the best parents. They both have a talent working with children and youth and they are loved by all the children and youth in our ward. They are fun, faithful, and giving. If it wouldn’t be too much trouble would you put their adoption blog information on your blogs. Some child out there is the special one for them. This is their blog: http://www.jradopt.blogspot.com/

Please will you do what you can to get the word out about this amazing couple.

Thanks, Jenn

The Lord answers prayers!

Aunt Rea called mom with some great news that has been spreading around one phone call at a time but I needed to put up a note of gratitude for answered prayers. Neal is alive, I knew it deep in my heart. The Lord is aware of him and the struggles he is going though right now. My prayer for Neal has been that he has the strength and courage to make the changes in his life to be the person the Lord wants him to be. I know he has a very hard road ahead of him if he wants to get his life back. The hardest thing is that only he can do this for himself. He has to want a change in his life. I hope and pray continually that he can find the strength to make the changes he need to live a happy life again. I love Neal and hope he feels that love. For today I'm going to be filled with gratitude that we at least know that he is alive and where he is. We love you Hatch family and pray for all of you also, this must have been so hard on all of you these last couple of months.

Family pictures?

I think it is time for a new family portrait. What do you all think? Since Greg and I will be out there at Thanksgiving, what about that Friday? Early in the morning or something like that. Do you all remember my friend Kristina Ruiz? She lives in American Fork and she does a wonderful job with her photograhpy. Click here to see her blog. I was thinking if she is availaible then maybe we can get her to take our pictures. I am not postive what she charges but you can't put a price on family photos and having them done well..... Let me know ASAP so I can give her a ring.

Family Christmas Gift

I have an idea for the family Christmas gift we do every year. There is no question that our family loves books. What would you guys think if every family donated books this year. We would spend the amount that we would normally spend and buy books. We could do it through book orders, book stores, or where ever. Then on Thanksgiving we could wrap all the books and then I could take them to Primary Children's Hospital, a homeless shelter, or any other place we thought could use them to give to children. Let me know what you think.

If any one else has a different idea, that is great too. I just have been trying to decide what to do.

Our new Book Nook

I think this mostly retains to RaeAnn... I hope you are not mad, But I changed the Book Nook. You can download these bookshelves and have your favorite books added to it. I had one put on to our blog. To add a book just click on the shelf and then the user name and password's are the same as what we use for the family blog. Enjoy.... Or email me and I will add the book for you.

Quote.....

This one is for Jenny and Brian who are training for their first half Marathon. Good luck.. I am thinking of you.
Janni

"In life, as in business, there has always been a need for those persons who could be called FINISHERS. Their ranks are few, their opportunities many, their contributions great. One day each of us will cross the finish line. Will it likewise be to the cheers and encouragement of those we have loved and served? Hopefully, it will be to the approbation of our savior, who because of our faith and good works, will say, "Well done, though good and faithful servant."

Horsley Family Reunion

Here are a few clips of the silly Horsley family at the reunion held at Heber Valley Camp on September 26 & 27, 2008. There are scenes of the grandkids throwing rocks at the cans on a log; scenes of the grandkids exploding rocket containers with alkaseltzer tablets and of course the "marshmellow stuff in your mouth" contest clearly won by Arrie. Not in the clips are John, Glen and Dad in a heated competition of horseshoes. Dad had the most ringers and won the contest. Friday night it was reported that two moose walked through the camp and deer were also seen. It was a fun weekend and everyone is looking forward to next year's reunion.

The Wednesday Letters

Mandy had this on her blog and I wanted to share it with everyone. I thought I would order the book and read it as soon as my life settles after moving. I know most of you are always looking for a good book.

"I finished this book last night. I LOVED IT SO MUCH!!! One of the best books I have read in a long time. I told my friend Janice that she needed to read it because it reminded me SO much of her parents. Janice, READ IT!!!! SOON!!! I got to page 82 and I was a little confused on the details and I was SO ENGROSSED that I was worried it would end too soon, so I just started over. I have never done that before. It was so super good though. It's a "Must Read!"

On a side note.... I have signed up to use a fun site called "Facebook". It is a fun way to keep in touch with friends and family. I have found most of the Hatches, Meyer's and Larkins. If you want to know more about it before you sign up, just call me. It is really fun... we can share pictures, and send little messages to each other. I think the Horsley crew should get in on it too. What fun.... ;)
Once you go to Facebook, just look me up and then you can see who I have as friends and add them to your list.

Love Janice

Reunion Photos

We had a great time at the reunion. I didn't come with the best mood but it's wonderful that being with the family always helps make me feel better. It was a much needed break for me. I love everyone so much and missed mom and Janni, Greg, Taylor and Morgan. Thanks for the great weekend!

We Love Heber Valley Camp

Well our family reunion was a great success. The Hurst family had a wonderful time. I know many made sacrifices to come and we're so glad you did. Thanks for all you did while not being in charge Frances. It was so wonderful because of you. We love our Horsley family verrrrry much. We missed mom and Greg and Janice, Taylor and Morgan. We thought about you and talked about how great it would be to all show up in Kentucky unannounced to suprise you. You are always with us Cook Family. We can't wait until Thanksgiving to all be together again.

We Beat Beethoven

On September 13th Frances and I ran a 5K to beat Beethoven's 9th symphony which is about 32 minutes long. We both did well. Here are some pictures after the race. Becky ran it also. She did very well also. Checkout Becky and Frances' blogs for more details. RaeAnn

Missing my family!

Just wanted to tell everyone that I/we are missing you so much.

Being in Kentucky is where we are suppose to be, I do not doubt that. However, it is really hard most days to know that when we are waking up at 7am it is only 5am in Utah, or that we can't just jump in the car and go visit for the weekend, or to know that half (exaggeration) is training and running for the Half marathon or 5k in St George on Nov 8Th. It is strange to think that when we are climbing in bed at 10:30pm it is only 8:30 and you are all still awake. We have missed Nate's baptism and we have missed Birthdays, and we will have to miss the Horsley reunion at Heber Valley Camp.

Here is a quote I have been thinking alot about:
"You only ever grow as a human being if you're outside your comfort zone." ~Percy Cerutty

So living outside of Utah and away from out friends and family is definitely out of my comfort zone, but I wouldn't change this time for anything. I know that as a family we are changing for the better. I know Greg has changed and is looking forward to more changes in the future, and I know I have changed. I like the changes in us and I like who we are becoming. Not that we were bad or horrible, but we are just looking at our life, the Gospel and this Country with totally new and opened eyes.

Thanks for all your support and remember we love and miss you all.
Janice
